The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Health Department has confirmed dengue in at least 299 people in the province during the last 24 hours.


With the latest addition to the list of victims, the number of dengue virus patients rose to 17,543 on Thursday.


According to the spokesman of the health department, the provincial capital was the most affected by the mosquito-borne virus.



120 new cases of dengue were reported in Peshawar in 24 hours, taking the total number of people infected with the virus in the district to 7204.


So far the total number of dengue cases in Mardan is 3496, 1076 in Khyber and 898 in Nowshera.


At least 14 people have lost their lives due to the virus in the province during this season, out of which eight are from Nowshera, five from Khyber and one each from Mansehra and Mardan.



Moreover, according to the data provided by the health department, a total of 85 patients of mosquito-borne virus are under treatment in various hospitals of the province.

The chances of dengue infection can be eliminated through active surveillance of your surroundings and proper home maintenance.


Here are some measures suggested by the Punjab government to prevent and control dengue.


Restoration of environmental sanitation

Water storage containers such as buckets, drums and tanks should be covered.

Anti-mosquito indoor and outdoor spraying

Removal of stagnant water to prevent mosquito breeding

Room coolers and air conditioners should be drained immediately.

The accumulated water in the refrigerator tray should be cleaned at least once a week.

Removal of waste and water from the surroundings

Roofs should be cleaned of standing water after every rain.

Waste tires must be disposed of after shredding.

Leaking faucets, pipes and drains should be repaired immediately.

Flower pots and areas that collect water overtime should be cleaned weekly.
