Kubra Khan shares 5 tips for healthy bones.
Actress Kabra Khan said she feels it has become taboo to talk about health struggles. She said: "I have found that sharing my struggles with others helps me and many others take the initiative to improve."
"On this World Osteoporosis Day, I am grateful to have had the opportunity to discuss my journey and finally realize that I needed to take action for my health and future," Kabra writes.
"I hope my story inspires you too," she said.
Worldwide, one in three women and one in five men aged 50 years or older will suffer an osteoporotic fracture. Osteoporosis causes bones to become weak and fragile, so that they break easily - even as a result of a minor fall, bump, sneeze or sudden movement. Fractures caused by osteoporosis can be life-threatening and a major cause of pain and long-term disability.
5 Tips for Healthy Bones
Exercise regularly - keep your bones and muscles moving. Weight lifting, muscle strengthening and balance training exercises are excellent.
Make sure your diet is rich in bone-healthy nutrients. Calcium, vitamin D and protein are most important for bone health. Safe exposure to sunlight will help you get enough vitamin D.
Avoid negative lifestyle habits. Maintain a healthy body weight, avoid smoking and excessive alcohol consumption.

Find out if you have risk factors. Bring them to your doctor's attention, especially if you have a previous fracture, a family history of osteoporosis, or take certain medications that affect bone health.
Get tested and treated if needed. If you're at high risk, you'll likely need medications and lifestyle changes to help protect yourself from a fracture.
